Music Ministry
The Music Ministry welcomes new members to participate as cantors, insturmentalists, choir members, and ministers of music at liturgies of Christian Burial. Contact Bill Lucia at 796-7675, Ext. 146 or wplmusicloft@comcast.net for more information.
Our resource is a music series developed by Oregon Catholic Press. It provides both flexibility and ease of use. Traditional texts as well as favorite and new selections are included. Missalettes change three times a year while the Music Issue/Hymnal is renewed annually as each Liturgical Year begins. Because music plays an integral role in the liturgy, enhancing and supporting the prayer of the congregation, the bishops of the United States have addressed its significance in Music in Catholic Worship. These guidelines indicate where music is to be used in all celebrations and address its appropriateness and artistic quality under what are called the liturgical, pastoral, and musical judgments. OCP's program is based on these criteria.
The music resource that we use for the responsorial psalms and Gospel acclamations is entitled Respond and Acclaim and is published by Oregon Catholic Press. The musical settings for these will now be available to the congregation in the missalette edition. The program is also coordinated with OCP's Resurrection Book, a primary source used here at Holy Cross for liturgies of Christian burial. Members of the Music Ministry use Choral Praise, containing chorale settings and descants for various texts, to enhance the prayer experience of the congregation.
I wish to express my thanks to Fr. Carrier for the support and encouragement that he has extended to the ministry. I also extend my sincere gratitude to those 'lofty' members of the group who have worked with me at weekly rehearsal each Wednesday night and who give of themselves week after week, sometimes ministering at more than one weekend liturgy.
