Parish Nurses

Caduceus2010

Parish nursing is a specialty practice that combines professional nursing with a health ministry. The fundamental purpose of the Parish Nurses is to provide general health education but on occasion they are asked for specific health resources and information.

The Parish Nurses, together with the Family Life Commission, present the popular Dine and Learn programs which take place in the spring and in the fall. These programs are known for their social as well as educational benefits. The events begin with a social gathering followed with a presentation by a health professional.  After the formal program there is a full dinner for all attendees. Since the speakers and the presentations also meet the guidelines for continuing education hours as defined by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, nurses are given a certificate of attendance - 1 CEU -  which may be applied toward continuing education requirements.

The topic this spring will be presented by an ophthalmologist who will address issues such as cataracts, macular degeneration, and retinal disorders. The event will be held in the meeting room Saturday, April 21st at 5PM.  Both the date and the speaker will be confirmed.  Please watch for more complete information in the bulletin as well as on this site.

In addition, the parish nursing ministry supplies all parishes in the Springfield diocese with timely, informative health topics to include in their weekly bulletins.
